Jian Liu is an internationally celebrated concert pianist, chamber musician, and educator. He was born in China and is now based in Wellington.

We’ll hear him perform pairs of solo piano works linked by shared themes - including the innocence of children, the majesty of nature, songs that sing of the heart, and energetic sonatinas. Jian Liu’s intention in pairing these works is to take the audience on a sonic voyage that traverses the landscapes of China and Aoteroa, and find common ground in the melodies that unite us.

The pairings of works by New Zealand and Chinese composers are:

Douglas Lilburn & Huang Hu Wei

Anthony Ritchie & Ding Shan De

Gareth Farr & Zhang Zhao

Gillian Whitehead & He Lu Ting

David Farquhar & Wang Li San
