Weekend RNZ highlights (29 February)

It was a big weekend for screen coverage on RNZ and here are the highlights collected in one convenient location.

Firstly, Kiwi director Lee Tamahori (Once Were WarriorsDie Another Day) has returned to make a feature in New Zealand for the first time in 20 years. Mahana is adapted from Witi Ihimaera’s novel Bulibasha and opens across the country on 3 March. His only NZ interview to support the film was with Kim Hill on Saturday morning:

 

While Mahana gets all the attention for local films this week, Stallone Ioasa’s Three Wise Cousins has been quietly setting the local box office on fire. Simon Morris spoke to him on Standing Room Only about the phenomenal response (in NZ, Samoa and Australia) and why he turned down NZFC funding:
