Catwalk comeback with a bang!

From My Heels Are Killing Me, 11:45 am on 29 August 2016

Style is everything and for WORLD, who showed their SS16/17 collection, 23 Skidoo at The Viaduct Event Centre on Saturday night as part of New Zealand Fashion Weekend, it was all about show-stopping, otherworldly looks that entertained the audience from one outfit to the next.

‘My Sharona’ blasted loudly through the speakers and models stomped their way down the runway styled with futuristic, glam metallic eye patches and streaky lipstick. The men, donning outrageous hair colours in pink, purple and electric blue with highly contoured cheekbones in drag queen-esque style and bold blocks of colour that popped on the eyes, courtesy of MAC Cosmetics.

The women’s collection juxtaposed sharp tailoring with feminine lace and print, combined with a street couture aesthetic; a series of sequinned baseball jackets saw WORLD poking fun at themselves with variations of a slogan running across the back, reading: Not Quite Coco Chanel, Not Quite Balenciaga…

But this-coming season the guys get to have all the fun - print pervades the menswear offerings with casual bomber jackets, bright coloured shorts and pineapple and flamingo-printed shirts in a collection that is smart, cheeky and playfully urban with an amplified quirky sensibility that the label are known for.

WORLD are pros when it comes to show-time and given that they haven’t made an appearance at New Zealand Fashion Week for the past five years, expectations were high.

Saturday night's audience were thrilled with a presentation that stayed true to WORLD’s larger-than-life, offbeat personality - the label delivering on a promise to produce a show worth seeing...and more.
