There’s cultural appropriation in the air as kaka haka are debated by the people of Aotearoa.  

Terrible overseas renditions of the haka have begun transforming our proud expression of Māori identity into a viral joke. Self-appointed ‘cultural warden’ JP sets out to ask the question; when is it OK to haka?

Corinna Hunziker (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu) is a driven and gifted indigenous storyteller. Corinna has worked on numerous documentaries including ‘Both Worlds’, ‘Waiata / Anthems’ and ‘Arranged’.

Expanding her repertoire in January 2021, she commenced her first drama directing block for drama ‘Ahikāroa’ and her first dramatic short film ‘Blood Bound’ has been selected by Script to Screen to resubmit in the 2nd round of NZFC Fresh Shorts. She is a Loading Docs alumni directing 2019 ‘Mana Wahine’, about the political stand for confiscated land at Ihumātao.

Justin Scott (Ngāpuhi) has a critical eye for detail and a passion for telling stories of people from all walks of life.

He is currently a Director and Development Producer for Attitude Pictures and directs the ‘Attitude’ series which explores the lives of those who live with disabilities.

With a varied background in production and directing he has worked across a wide range of production. Like Corinna, Justin is also a Loading Docs alumni, producing ‘He Hekenga Tūhura’ in 2019 which explored the legacy of Sir Hekenukumai Pūhipi. 

Haka Haha is part of a collection of eight Loading Docs short documentaries.
