Champion returns to form at Asian Games

Hurdler Liu Xiang, the pin-up boy of Chinese athletics, believes another Olympic gold is within his reach after making it three successive 110 metre hurdles titles at the Asian Games in Guangzhou.

The 2004 Olympic champion has been battling a stubborn achilles injury for the last two years.

Fans were shocked when injury forced Liu Xiang, 27, to pull out just before the start of his Olympic title defence in Beijing two years ago.

But his time of 13.09 seconds in the men's hurdles final on Wednesday was his best in years.

His personal best of 12.88 seconds was set in 2006 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Liu capped a day of celebrations for the Chinese team, who now have 173 gold medals at the Games after clinching titles in boxing, diving, karate and beach volleyball. Three days of competition are left.

Liu was the first Chinese man to win an Olympic track and field title.
