Poll pain for Rudd

6:20 am on 10 May 2010

A new opinion poll spells bad news for Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

The Neilsen Poll in the Sydney Morning Herald and Age newspapers on Monday shows Mr Rudd's approval rating has fallen 14 points in a month to 45%.

The ABC reports his disapproval rating is up 13 points to 49%, the first time his disapproval rating has been higher than his approval.

But Mr Rudd still leads Opposition leader Tony Abbott as preferred prime minister 53% to 38%.

The two sides of politics are locked together on preferences - 50/50.

Parliament resumes on Tuesday for the federal budget.
