Bank eyes business beyond tribal powerhouses

7:11 pm on 12 September 2011

The newly appointed Head of Maori Business for the Bank of New Zealand, Pierre Tohe, says there is plenty of economic activity to chase beyond the corporate arms of iwi.

Mr Tohe plans to tour the whenua to increase financial connections with Maori clients.

He says as well as the big money located with tribes that have settled their Treaty claims, other Maori business is emerging.

Mr Tohe says in his iwi, Waikato Tainui, there are stand-alone entities such as Whanau Ora and marae looking at economic development, offering opportunities for BNZ to offer assistance and advice.
