Hunter Mahan's victory yesterday at the WGC World Match Play Golf Championship has taken him to a career-high ninth in the world rankings.
The 29-year-old American, who started the week ranked 22nd, beat Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy 2 and 1 in yesterday's 18-hole final in Arizona.
Had McIlroy won he would have taken over from Luke Donald as world number one.
