NZ women win League World Cup

New Zealand has reinforced its standing as the dominant force in women's rugby league by beating Australia 34-0 to retain the World Cup crown in Brisbane.

After winning in 2000 and 2005 New Zealand was untroubled throughout the third tournament and

scored seven tries in the final with Katrina Whatu-Simpkins and Trish Hina both scoring doubles,.

The match was the curtain-raiser to the Kiwis' 32-22 World Cup semi-final win over England.

The Women's World Cup involved New Zealand, Pacific Islands, England, Russia, Tonga, Samoa, France and Australia.

The Kiwi Ferns reached their final by beating England 16-4 after going through pool play with big wins over the Pacific Islands, Tonga and Samoa.
