The Melbourne Victory A-League football club's foundation player Archie Thompson will remain with the club for a 10th season.
The Victory's first-ever signing and top scorer will join up with new marquee Besart Berisha next season, after agreeing a new deal with the club that takes him inside the salary cap.
Thompson, an Australian representative with 54 senior caps, was born in Otorohanga in the North Island, to a New Zealand father and a Papua New Guinean mother.
The Western Sydney Wanderers take on Berisha's current club, the Brisbane Roar, in Sunday's A-League final. The Roar knocked the Victory out last weekend, while the Wanderers beat current champions, the Central Coast Mariners.
