Submissions sought on proposed transport changes

6:32 am on 27 April 2012

Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee is inviting the agriculture sector to make submissions on proposed changes to the transport regulations, which cover the use of vehicles, such as tractors and combine harvesters, on the road.

Mr Brownlee says the Government decided last year safety rules are necessary, but there shouldn't be unnecessary red tape.

He says the Ministry of Transport, the Labour Department, police and the Transport Agency have considered whether the current rules take account of the reality of people using agricultural vehicles outside the farm gate.

Mr Brownlee says the review team has produced several proposals and the ministry will start a series of five consultation workshops next Wednesday.
