Police in Christchurch are appealing for witnesses to a suspicious fire in the suburb of Woolston on Saturday morning.
A car parked on private property at St Johns Street and St Lukes Street was set on fire between 1am and 3am.
The car was within one metre of a bedroom where a family was sleeping.
Police say the occupants - a couple and their four-year-old child, are lucky to have escaped harm.
Neighbours alerted the family and the blaze was extinguished by the Fire Service.
