People in the Botany electorate are being urged to get out and vote in Saturday's by-election and to vote on Friday if they are going to be away for the weekend.
The by-election was sparked by the resignation of National MP Pansy Wong after she admitted her international travel subsidy had been misused.
The campaign has been deliberately toned down out of respect for the people of Christchurch following the devastating quake on 22 February, and candidates say they hope the turnout is not too low.
Chief electoral officer Robert Peden says that even with people's minds still very much on the earthquake, it is important to get out and vote.
Mr Peden says if people are not going to be in Botany on Saturday, they can cast an advance vote at one of four advance voting places open in the electorate now.
Eighteen polling booths will be open in Botany on Saturday from 9am to 7pm.
