Winds buffer Toast Martinborough

5:52 pm on 15 November 2009

High winds have caused problems for festival goers at the Toast Martinborough event in the Wairarapa.

Police say three marquees were brought down by strong gusts.

The Fire Service says it had four or five call-outs on Sunday to vineyards participating in the event, and the main marquee had to be dismantled after the wind took hold of it.

Police are warning motorists to take care on high roads in the Wellington and Wairarapa regions.

They say extremely strong winds could make driving difficult.
