An incident in which a police officer was injured by shattered glass and another had a hammer thrown at them has now been wound up.
Police used a taser and a police dog to apprehend an offender who was injured in the process and has now been taken to Auckland City Hospital for treatment.
Police expect to lay charges over the incident which began around 2pm in Grey Lynn, Auckland City District Commander Superintendent Karyn Malthus said in a statement.
She said a man who had arrived at the premises of a family harm support agency, acted aggressively and made threats to its staff.
The man returned to his home on Great North Road, where he continued to act aggressively towards neighbours.
When police arrived at his home a knife was thrown through a window at an officer. It shattered the glass, narrowly missing the officer, who suffered facial cuts from the glass as a result.
While police tried to negotiate with him, they say he continued to threaten them and also presented a number of weapons.
"After more than an hour, police entered the address with the man continuing to act aggressively and refusing to engage with police," Superintendent Malthus said.
"Upon entering the property, a hammer was thrown directly at an officer."
At that point the taser and the dog were deployed.
More inquiries are being undertaken and the incident will also be referred to the IPCA.
