Avatar took just 31 days to earn $10 million at the New Zealand box office - the quickest to reach that milestone according to 20th Century Fox.
The next fastest, Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, took 33 days.
Avatar, directed by James Cameron, won Golden Globe awards for best picture and best director in Los Angeles this week.
