Possum trap warning for Dunedin walkers

10:36 pm on 24 July 2014

The Dunedin City Council is warning bush walkers to watch their step after more than 20 leg hold possum traps were found on a popular track.

The traps have now been removed from the Town Belt bush area beside Opoho Park.

A council spokesperson says the clamps are unsuitable for public spaces, and no one is allowed to put them there.

They say people in bush areas similar to where the traps were found should take extra care, and call the council if they see any.

The 20 traps have been given to police.
