Counties-Manukau police are searching for two men who were armed when they broke into a Pakuranga home early on Sunday morning.
A female resident was assaulted with what is believed to be a knife, in the incident.
A firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was fired at a man who chased the intruders. He was not injured.
