One home was evacuated and two others threatened by a scrub fire at Whangaparoa, north of Auckland.
The fire in the suburb of Manley broke out about 3am on Saturday and spread along a cliff face, covering some 800 square metres.
The Fire Service said it was quickly brought under control.
