Police in Christchurch are looking for two men they believe were involved in an armed home invasion during which a shot was fired.
Police say a woman and two children were sleeping when two masked men forced their way into a Redwood house in the middle of Monday night and demanded money.
They say a shot fired inside the house did not injure anyone and the woman was able to escape and call for help, suffering minor injuries when leaving the property through a broken glass door.
Police say they were called at just after 1am on Tuesday and a man was tracked to a nearby address where they say he pointed a loaded shotgun at an officer. A police dog was used to subdue the man and the dog handler disarmed him.
Detective Sergeant Richard Quested says the officers were lucky not to be shot.
A man appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday morning on firearms and aggravated robbery charges.
Police are still seeking an accomplice and a driver, while continuing to scour the area in and around the Northcote Rd property.
