The last Canterbury highway still closed after Saturday's earthquake is on track to reopen on Friday night, says the New Zealand Transport Agency.
State Highway 74, a main route into the Port of Lyttelton, was closed so foundations could be repaired.
One section, between Bridge Street and Metro Place, will not reopen yet, because a replacement is needed for a damaged underground water pipe that services Christchurch city's sewage treatment plant.
It is uncertain how long that will take, but a detour will be in place.
The agency says the Chaney's Road on-ramp to State Highway 1, north of Christchurch, should reopen by Saturday night.
State Highway 77 in Mid-Canterbury is open, but there is a detour between Glentunnel and Glenroy because of subsidence.
Repairs to that stretch of road begin next week.
