Hoax email gives false earthquake advice

An email that gives false advice on what to do in an earthquake has been circulating since Saturday's quake.

The Ministry of Civil Defence says the hoax email tells people to lie beside furniture to create the triangle of life.

A Civil Defence spokesperson, Tony Wallace, says the advice in the email is incorrect.

Mr Wallace says the ministry advises people to identify a safe place before an earthquake so that they can respond quickly when one occurs.
