Episode 196 features an interview with singer and songwriter Angelique Kidjo. Originally from Benin, Kidjo has had a stellar career that saw her begin singing from the age of 6. She later escaped political turmoil in Africa, relocated to France, and rising from poverty, became a Grammy Award–winning artist with a significant back catalogue of albums. Earlier this year in 2020, Angélique Kidjo won Best World Music Album for her tribute album to Celia Cruz simply called Celia.  This marks her fourth win in the category and fourth GRAMMY win overall. Trevor Reekie caught up with Angelique Kidjo before she took to the TSB Bowl stage at Womad 2019 and delivered a sensational show to a capacity crowd that confirmed her status as ‘Africa’s premiere diva’
