The Story of the Day with Robert Kelly

From The Panel, 3:44 pm on 25 May 2020

Today Nine announced that they had successfully sold the New Zealand media company Stuff to the company's current Chief Executive Sinead Boucher. It marks a change in the drift of New Zealand media ownership moving overseas, with Stuff returning to local ownership.

Many of the titles that fall under the media company's banner have a long history in New Zealand, one of them is the Christchurch paper The Press which printed its first issue on this day in 1861. Robert Kelly has a look at media ownership in New Zealand in the 1860s and finds that not really that much has changed.
