The Panel with Andrew Frame and Leonie Freeman (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 18 December 2019

What is your FAVOURITE Christmas song? From next May - Kainga Ora, Housing New Zealand's successor - wants to begin installing multiple sensors in up to 2000 state houses as part of its Smart Homes project. The aim its said is is to better understand how customers use their homes and what barriers their might be to having a healthy home. The Charity Whare Hauora says it is invasive and could be used to cut benefits or even evict tenants. Gehan Gunasekara from the Privacy Foundation NZ joins the discussion. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his attorney general released the second draft of a religious discrimination bill this month. The bill - in its new form - allows religious bodies - hospitals, aged care facilities and accomodation providers like retirement homes to discriminate against staff on the basis of religion to preserve the institutions' quote "religious ethos". Retired religious history professor Peter Lineham joins the discussion. Christmas can be stressful - gifts, family time, cooking - but you must remember to step back, have some perspective and breath, an editorial in the New Zealand Herald urges.
