From The Panel, 4:01 pm on 8 November 2019

Oranga Tamariki has announced its findings of an internal inquiry into its contoversial attempt to uplift a newborn baby from its teenage mother in Hawkes Bay. It found a litany of failures and the Oranga Tamariki chief executive has promised change. Melanie Reid from Newroom broke the story and continues to follow it now, she joins the discussion. Interesting opinion piece in the NZ Herald by former health social work manager Dara McNaught on the issue of superannuitants being caught in the trap of poverty. Dara cites the opinion of a concerned ED doctor who said that one third of the over 65 year old patients he sees are malnourished. She also cites a friend, who at 70, after a 40-year lifetime of work, found herself struggling to survive. Major Pam Waugh from the Salvation Army joins the discussion.
