The Panel with Ruwani Perera and Simon Pound (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 1 October 2019

Would you like to see CEO pay capped, and to what level? Why? The National Party's accused the Speaker, Trevor Mallard, of attempting censorship and attacking democracy after his call for political attack ads using footage from Parliamentary TV to be withdrawn from social media. The Standing orders comittee announced yesterday it was taking public submissions into a review of how footage from parliament could be used. The panellists tell us what they think of the review. NZ First has shot down a plan to make drug testing legal by this summer, because they say it could encourage drug use. Police Minister Stuart Nash said earlier this year the move would save lives and hospitalisations, but he's been unable to get backing from the political party. We talk to Ross Bell from the Drug Foundation about the development. Oranga Tamariki workers have been physically and verbally attacked, and since the controversy over the removal of babies in OT care, they say the abuse has increased. There were 39 assaults on social workers to June but it's supected that some assaults are not being reported. The panellists discuss the problem. The classic sleepover - staying up all night with your mates, refusing to sleep, eating junk food and building forts. It's one of the best things about being a kid. But one mum has made the occasion slightly more complicated, laying out a lenghty set of rules and a contract for kids to sign. We ask the panellists whether they ever made a similar list. The humble typewriter is back, baby! I'm sure some may be arguing it never left...but it has of course fallen out of favour since the invent of the computer and all it's word-processing power. We ask the panellists if they'd go back to the typewriter.
