The Panel with Julia Whaipooti and Ben Thomas (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 17 July 2019

An article from the Harvard business review caught our attention, it's all about our relationships with our bosses, and why employees leave. In the states, studies show half of all Americans have quit jobs because of their bosses. We ask the panellists what makes a good oss and a bad one. Good boss, bad boss - what have been your experiences? Kelvin Davis has come out in favour of compulsory Te Reo Maori in schools. It's a break from Labour and the Prime Minister's position on the issue - who have stayed away from the word "complusory" instead favouring making te reo universally available in schools. The panellists weigh in on the issue. A survey of more than 2000 Kiwis has found nearly of third said their perception of people changed when they used emojis at work. And of those, 59 per cent found they saw people as warmer and friendlier when they used emojis. But they can also be misinterpreted. We talk to Miriam Meyerhoff, professor of linguistics at Victoria University of Wellington, about using emojis in the workplace. Love Island, a UK reality TV show, is screening at 5pm on New Zealand screens. It has a G classification but one child development expert says kids should not be watching it. We ask Nathan Wallis why he's concerned.
