A design for a new pedestrian bridge in Christchurch is calling into question the respect New Zealand has for its artists, after a design competition was scrapped and the council instead went for a government-funded design. Artist Graham Bennet says Christchurch has ended up with a concrete slab. New Zealand Rugby has a list of socially orientated "character assessment values" when it comes to selecting players. Things like work ethic, competitiveness, resilience, coachability, and motivation in rugby. A study by the University of Otago says overseas academics also recommend focusing on values such as compassion, fairness, and integrity. The study's co-author Tania Cassidy discusses what we should expect from players off the field.
