Let down by absence of a Race Relations Commissioner

From The Panel, 4:21 pm on 9 July 2019

New Zealand hasn't had a Race Relations Commissioner for over a year. The first attempt to replace Susan Devoy apparently didn't produce enough quality candidates, so the position was readvertised. The Commission did get someone but, they turned the job down. In the meantime, one of the unsuccessful candidates challenged the readvertisement process in Court. The New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils national president Pancha Narayanan says this has led to "an absence of a moderating effect." Unoversity of Otago law expert Andrew Geddis explains the legal aspect to the saga.
