The government has announced new subsidies for electric and hybrid vehicles up to $8000 off new or near-new vehicles arriving in the country. But there's stick as well as carrot, with a $3000 fee added onto the import of vehicles with the highest greenhouse gas emissions. This will come into effect in 2021.
