The Very Hungry Caterpillar is celebrating its 50th anniversary! The best-selling book is was first published in June 1969 and has been translated into 62 languages. More than 50 million copies have been sold since it was first published - that's one every 15 seconds. We ask the panellist what they think makes a kids book a classic. What was the children's book that meant most to you growing up? Yesterday our panellist Lynda Hallinan talked about the rats she'd been seeing around her place and her annoyance that her cat wasn't catching them. A story about an infestation of rats in the Auckland neighbourhood of Titirangi. The locals reckon the rats are the size of cats. Jessi Morgan from Predator Free New Zealand gives us tips on how to tackle rats in your backyard? The environment ministry is looking at a scheme that would give consumers a deposit for returning their drink containers for recycling. The idea came from a petition calling for a return to the old ways were you'd get money for plastic and glass - it would likely be about 10 or 20 cents. The Panellists weigh in on whether they support a scheme like this or whether it's not going far enough. Fining the parents of bullies - ridiculous or good idea? This from an an article in the New York Times about a novel proposal in the US city of Wisconsin Rapids. parents could be fined thousands of dollars if their children bully others.
