Japan resumes commercial whaling

Whale hunting goes back in Japanese culture thousands of years however, modern commercial or scientific whaling has been severely condemned by the international community. Japan has resumed its commercial whaling and the attitudes behind it are quite complex and political. Social anthropologist Grant Otsuki says a person can be part of Japan's national culture, and they can be part of the culture of a small village but they are also part of a "modern" global culture. The problem facing everyone living in modern times is which of these cultures are they going to support.
