The Panel with Joe Bennett and Betty Ofe Grant (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 28 March 2019

Would you use public transport on weekends if it was free? If so why? Youth Lobby Group Generation Zero is proposing free weekend family travel, fare caps and bigger student discounts for public transport. They believe it's a way to get more people onboard trains and buses. They say that fare polices and a lack of incentive fares were holding public transport back, particularly within poorer communities. Leroy Beckett of Generation Zero explains how this could be made to work. Fastway couriers will not ship any guns or gun parts in the wake of the Christchurch Mosque attacks. It's to undergo a review of its firearms policy and says gun retailers support the move. Courier Post has also stopped the delivery of firearms, while NZ Post reviews its policy. The Crusaders rugby side will play their first home game since the mosque attack on 15 March. As the team contemplates a name change, it's understood that the Crusaders will tone down the sword-wielding knights and horse imagery on Saturday week. Chief executive Colin Mansbridge says it's unlikely the knights will feature in the pre-match entertainment. Controversial Canadian academic Jordan Peterson's books are back on shelves. Whitcoulls had removed his "12 rules for life: An antidote to Chaos" after a photo emerged of him embracing a fan wearing an anti-Islam T-shirt during his NZ tour. Whitcoulls made in the decision following the Christchurch attacks, saying it was wrong to support the author at this time.
