The Panel with Ganesh Nana and Golnaz Bassam-Tabar (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 21 March 2019

The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand will ban all military-style weapons and assault rifles, high capacity magazines, and parts that can turn a weapon into a military-style weapon. Parliament is moving quickly, the new laws will be in place by 11 April. The government will design a buy-back scheme for guns that will be banned but people who do not return banned weapons in a reasonable time could receive up to three years in prison or a $4000 fine. Vigils are all very well - but what about action? This is a question asked by Texas-based New Zealand-born Muslim woman Lamia Imam. Our Panelists aren't too keen on the "thoughts and prayers" mantra either. The NZ Super Fund, ACC, the Government Superannuation Fund Authority, National Provident Fund, and Kiwi Wealth are calling for Facebook Google and Twitter to take action following the live streaming and sharing on social media of last week's attacks. The CEO of Pathfinder Asset Management John Berry sasy they never held Facebook shares.
