The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand will ban all military-style weapons and assault rifles, high capacity magazines, and parts that can turn a weapon into a military-style weapon. Parliament is moving quickly, the new laws will be in place by 11 April. The government will design a buy-back scheme for guns that will be banned but people who do not return banned weapons in a reasonable time could receive up to three years in prison or a $4000 fine.
