The Panel with Mai Chen and John Pulu (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 26 February 2019

The directors of the failed construction company Mainzeal, who include former prime minister Jenny Shipley, have been ordered to pay the company's creditors $36 million. Business journalist and co-host of RNZ/Newsroom's Two Cents' Worth podcast Nikki Mandow joins us to explain what it all means. A bill which would allow people to change their sex on their birth certificate has been deferred, with authorities citing inadequate public consultation. A new report by Oranga Tamariki and the Office of the Children's Commissioner has been released - one which actually compiles the opinions of children themselves. And the results are jarring, with more than a third saying they face problems like racism, poverty and bullying. Donna Provoost from the Commissioner's Office joins us to talk through the findings.
