The Panel with Fa'afete Taito and Catherine Robertson (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 20 February 2019

New figures from the N.Z.I.E.R show a ban on the exploration of oil and gas could cost the country up to $30b by 2050. Then there's the knock-on effects to other industries and businesses. Economist Cameron Bagrie says the government shouldn't didh out the hits without dishing out the opportunities. Reremai Cameron is a student at Waikato University's Tauranga campus who was completely shocked at a text exchange with a prospective landlord, based on her name. This person basically said if you're Maori, don't think you can have multitudes of friends and family bunking down. Not only does it reek of racism, it raises issues on what a landlord can and can't interfere with in a tennant's home. The waiting list for public housing cracked the 10,000 mark by the end of 2018. That's 73 per cent more than a year ago, and over three times the number waiting at the end of 2015. This seems unbelieveable. Ministry of Housing and Urban Development officials blame higher rents, greater awareness of public housing, and a slowdown in the rate of people exiting public housing for the increase. Since joining French club Toulon rugby star Julian Savea has scored just one try in 10 matches. Toulon's owner Mourad Boudjellal wants him out. What's exactly happened to the former All Black?
