The Panel with Nadine Higgins and Mark Knoff Thomas (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 11 February 2019

Question of the Day: What do YOU do to reduce food waste? A study has found that 66 percent of New Zealanders tried to reduce their waste over the last two years by doing different things like eating leftovers and planning their meals. But that hasn't equated into a significant drop in food waste at the landfill. We ask Jenny Marshall, project manager Love Food Hate Waste which conducted the study, what more we can do. Both Facebook and Twitter are introducing features to effectively erase posts and messages. Facebook is introducing an "unsend" feauture for it's messenger service and Twitter is looking at allowing users to edit tweets. We ask the panelists if this is such a good idea. A customer of Buoy cafe in Auckland was outraged when she wasn't allowed to use a takeaway coffee cup while she dined in. The cafe owners only give out the cups for people takign their coffee away. It lead to a heated exchange which saw the customer trespassed. The panelists debate the policy. Hungary's Prime Minister says women who have four kids or more will be exempt from income tax for life. Young couples will also be given interest-free loans that will be cancelled once they have 3 kids. The measures are to increase the population, without having to rely on immigration. The panelists give their view on the move. Our thermostats are sexist, a piece on Newshub suggests. They've enlisted the help of a University of Auckland lecturer to figure out why women are often colder in offices than men. Apparently it's all to do with our metabolism and how we regulate our body temperature. Everyone has a zone of temperature which they are most comfortable with. The panelists weigh in on whether they've noticed this in their offices.
