The Panel with Julia Hartley Moore and Guy Williams (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:02 pm on 23 January 2019

Topics - Stealing is illegal, but what if you're not sure if it IS stealing? The workplace can be difficult, is taking a pen home a fireable offence? In a Stuff opinion piece, a lawyer recounts the case of a worker who thought her could take home leftover booze. He was sacked but then reinstated by an employment relations commision. We ask the panelists and listeners what they think. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has spent her first day at the World Economic Forum in Davos speaking passionately about climate change alongside naturalist Sir David Attenborough and former US vice President Al Gore. Meanwhile there's been blacklash against a TV presenter who questioned why Ms Ardern wouldn't propose to her partner. The panelists discuss the international coverage. 'Overtourism' is a serious issue around the world. It's the idea that we might have reached "peak tourism" because our incredible destination can't handle the crowds. Regina Scheyvens, Professor of Development Studies at Massey University explains the issues ahead of the World's First Research conference on tourism and sustainability being held here. The US Presidential election isn't until 2020 but Democratic candidates have already started to declare their intentions, and it seems most Americans favour the new options over current President Donald Trump. The panelists weigh in on who they think has the power to take on Trump. Two documentaries have been released about 2017's disastrous Fyre Festival. What was meant to be a luxury music festival turned out to be a nightmare for partygoers and for those who worked on the festival. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help one of the local Bahamian workers who were left out of pocket after the event. We ask the panelists whether this is an example of how social media can be kidn as well as cruel.
