The Panel with Penny Ashton and Mike Rehu (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 19 December 2018

Self-perception is usually quite accurate, say researchers at the University of Toronto. They investigated the assumption that people lean towards self-enhancement when considering their own personalities. But it seems our perceptions of ourselves from the inside match the opinions of other people from the outside. The panelists tell us if they agree with that. What the panellists Penny Ashton and Mike Rehu want to talk about. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had to withdraw and apologise after using the Opposition leader's first name. We discuss these protocols, seemingly inherited from Westminister, with veteran political reporter Richard Harman, who also gives us a wrap of the year in Parliament on its last day. Auckland's Pride Parade will be scrapped and replaced by a march, reports suggest. While the Pride festival will continue, there will be no opening gala or closing party next year, express magazine says. We ask the panelists what they think of this. The Guardian has reported on the demise of office parties. There's been a decline in festivities, down to 65 percent, with #metoo and millennials being blamed, Meanwhile gender equality has stalled, says the World Economic Forum, with women globally paid 63 percent of what men get. The global pay gap between men and women will take 202 years to close. The panelists give their view on these issues.
