A well-known Dunedin resident Neil Collins has died at the age of 77. He was a radio broadcaster, he presented the old Miss New Zealand pageants back in the day and anchored numerous Telethons. He wwnt on to be a City Councillor for many years and was awarded both an ONZM and a QSM. Ireland have experienced victory over the seemingly undefeatable All Blacks rugby side. Is it good for them to suffer a bit of defeat? Nothing much came out of APEC in Papua New Guinea and it was the first time a joint communique wasn't delivered at the end of the annual meeting since the first summit in 1989. meanwhile the New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters says the standoff between China and the US in the Pacific is increasingly causing nearby countries to look at New Zealand "with fresh eyes" for leadership and representation. The CIA has reached the conclusion that the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salaman was behind the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi embassy in Turkey. The US President Donal Trump has described the audio on a recording said to be that of Mr Khashoggi being killed as " a suffering tape." So what needs to happen? Figures from the Salvation Army indicate 1-in-5 families can't afford Christmas. This includes the so-called working poor, whose numbers have grown. The $75 in the hand the Government gave some families in the Families Package in the budget has been negated by petrol and rent. Major Pam Waugh is the Salvation Army's head of welfare services and talks about a perfect storm of debt, low wages and high housing costs which cancels the 25th December for many people.
