The Panel with Mai Chen and Andrew Frame (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 2 November 2018

A heartwarming story for a Friday about a man who runs an elephant sanctuary in Thailand and plays music to tame the savage beast. Or in this case sooth sick and traumatised elephants. Paul Barton plays mainly classical pieces to elephants which used to be work animals and are mostly blind and elderly, though some of them are calves. What the Panelists Mai Chen and Andrew Frame want to talk about. A Law Society survey has found there is little difference in the salaries between the sexes in the first 10 years' of practice. Then after about 10 years a glass ceiling appears. Women lawyers are less likely to have perks likes a mobile phone, bonus scheme, parking, private health insurance and gym memberships than their male counterparts. On the other hand, they are more likely to work flexible hours, have a laptop and a day off for their birthday. The first national survey of heterosexual sex in New Zealand for a very long time has found a quarter of underage young people are having sex. Should we be worried? Afterall there is an age of consent for a reason. Ray White Real Estate has had to apologise over its Warkworth Investor Gate newsletter mocking rental tenants with the "funniest things tenants say about not paying rent". Naturally the Renters United Group isn't laughing saying the attitude displays a lack of empathy and displays more evidence for the rental industry to be properly licensed and regulated. A lack of qualified builders and young people wanting to enter the industry means not a lot will change with supplying much needed housing in New Zealand. John Gray of HOBANZ says it's impossible to catch up and get on top of the housing crisis with the way things are.
