The Panel with Chris Gallavin and Jennie Moreton (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 18 June 2018

Nurses may go on strike after 'strongly' rejecting a new pay deal from district health boards. A very significant number of nurses voted in favour of strike action next month, but it is still considered to be the last resort action and New Zealand Nurses Organisation will continue to work toward a resolution with DHBs. Police are lookign to re-open the investigation into the Pike River Mine explosion. It comes ahead of the planned re-entry to the mine later this year. The initial investigation ended in 2013 with no charges being laid. Criminal charges may still be hard to pursue. The panelists discuss. Catholic priests in Australia could soon be facing a hefty fine if someone confesses child sex avuse to them and they don't report it to police. South Australia and ACT have law changes coming that would overhaul the confessional. We ask Dame Lyndsay Freer, media spokeswoman Catholic Diocese of Auckland, if this is an attack on the church, if it will silence people further or if it will make the church more open.
