Drug-impaired drivers are now involved in more fatal crashes than drink-drivers, according to an Automobile Association study of drivers involved in fatal crashes last year. Julian Monaghan, flying triple-7s for British Airways, has been given eight months inside for being drunk in the cockpit. Alcohol abuse costs the country billions of dollars a year: accidents, crime, addiction, not to mention all the doctors and nurses in our emergency departments abused and assaulted by drunks. There was the Massey University research out earlier this week which reckons the only effect of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 has been a reduction in alcohol availability after 4am in our bigger cities. New Zealand sex workers have asked the Government for a Minister of Prostitution.
