The Panel with Andrew Hoggard and Catherine Robertson (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 5 March 2018

The Academy Awards are held today with a couple of Kiwi nominees in the mix. There's controversy on and off the red carpet, many debating how the #metoo and Time's Up movements will be dealt with, while the movies are being scrutinised. This year the nominee are more diverse than previous years, after a backlash, but will that be shown in the winners? We get live reports from RNZ's Charlotte Graham-McLay. The Auckland rail network should be back to normal soon with the drivers' union and Transdev coming to an agreement, after a week of strike action. Transdev and Auckland Transport wanted to make it so train drivers would control the doors and train officers would manage problems but the union argued it would be unsafe for passengers. We ask John Kerr, from the Rail and Maritime Transport Union, what they've settled. Another major concert in New Zealand has seen concert-goers left in the lurch once again due to dodgy ticket websites. The ticket re-seller Viagogo is at the heart of the problem, with fans spending hundreds of dollars only to be turned away the venue door. One such disappointed buyer is Tauranga father Tommy Wilson, who bought tickets for his daughter to Bruno Mars in Auckland, but they turned out to be fake. He has banded together with other angry Viagogo customers to aproach the Commerce Commission about the issue. We speak to Mr Wilson and also get a response from the commission. Small businesses in Auckland are lashing out against plans to create cycleways and bigger bus lanes in local shopping centres. Many are worried removing carparks in favour of cycleways and bus stops will see a reduction in customers and years of roadworks. The panelists weigh in on the controversy.
