The Panel with Bernard Hickey and Penny Ashton (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 22 January 2018

We ask out panelist economic commentator Bernard Hickey for his thoughts on the latest Bitcoin trouble, a loophole in the UK that could see huge profits from the cryptocurrency untaxed. We also discuss the second annual Blockchain Cruise and how blockchain technology seems to be here to stay, even if Bitcoin falls. It's been the news of the year - Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford announcing they are having their first baby. While many opinion pieces have focused on how the Prime Minister will cope, and a fair amount of criticism, there has been a lot of support, especially with the couple saying Clarke will be a stay-at-home dad. A regular panellist on the show, Clarke Gayford tells us what this means for him and whether he'll continue his work as well as taking care of the new baby when it's due in June. Gambling is a worry for many people in New Zealand and because of that, there are many rules and laws surrounding it. Advertising of gambling is overseen by the Gambling Act however not all forms can be controlled. We ask our panellists what they think of online gambling sites being advertised on TV during primetime or when children may be watching. Paula Snowden, chief executive of the Problem Gambling Foundation, also joins the show to discuss the issue.
