New York's homicide levels are at their lowest since the 1950s, there have been 263 so far in 2017. Believe it or not, this is the continuation of violent crime reduction lasting a quarter of a century.

Neighbourhood policing policies were shunned in New Zealand in recent years as cops cruised around in cars and police stations were shut down and we were told on The Panel that bobbies on the beat were inefficient.

There has been a partial re-think of that and New Zealand now has some neighbourhood policing in high crime areas.
