From The Weekend , 10:10 am on 1 January 2017

For a young person making the decision to dedicate themselves to a high performance sport it's an exciting and hugely challenging time. Young athletes may be putting everything else on hold. A big ask for them, and their family.

In the first in a series on personal development in sport The Weekend is on the starting blocks to turn a dream into a living.

Lynn Freeman speaks to one of the youngest ever to be selected for the White Ferns, 16 year old cricketer Amelia Kerr, her mum Jo Murray.
