The human brain is fascinating - and perplexing - and with an aging population more of us are likely to develop life changing conditions like Huntington's, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Motor Neuron diseases.

For almost 40 years Distinguished Professor Richard Faull has spearheaded innovative ground-breaking research on the brain, through his own work and by encouraging collaboration nationally and internationally.

He is now Sir Richard Faull, named as a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Years Honours list for his contribution to medical research.

Sir Richard established the Centre for Brain Research at the University of Auckland in 2009 - recognised as a leader in its field internationally.

Not only that, he's fundraised more than $15 million to support the centre.
