Throughout the 18th century, moko mokai/ toi moko/ mummified human heads was an accepted currency between Maori and traders with many ending up in European museums. Now toi moko are making their way home through a repatriation scheme involving Te Papa Tongarewa. Justine Murray meets Te Herekiekie Herewini, the manager leading the process.
